Take a priivate half day tour to Pella, the ancient capital of the Macedonian Empire and native town of Alexander the Great. After the pick up from your hotel, we will drive nortwest of Thessaloniki. Our first visit will be the archaeological site of Pella with the marvelous mosaics, made with small natural pebbles of various colours. Our next visit will be the new Museum, opened in October 2009. It is situated at the southeast foot of the hill where the palace of the Macedonian dynasty was, northeast of the archaeological site. This museum gives you the chance to see interesting finding aged from the 4th Century BC, like the unique statuette of a horned Athena (apparently influenced by Minoan Crete), the statue of Alexander sprouting the horns of Pan, and the adorable sleeping Eros (Cupid). You will be back in Thessaloniki after 4 hours, so you will have time to spend in the city.
During your stay in Thessaloniki take a half-day tour to Vergina (Aigai), one of the most important archaeological sites of Greece and listed as an UNESCO World Heritage site You will visit the most important remains of the monumental palace of the Kingdom of Macedonia, lavishly decorated with mosaics and painted stuccoes, and the burial ground with more than 300 tumuli, some of which date from the 11th century B.C. One of the royal tombs is identified as that of Philip II, who conquered all the Greek cities, paving the way for his son Alexander and the expansion of the Hellenistic world. Its Famous for its many waterfalls and greenery, Edessa is virtually unknown to tourists, which is a blessing and a shame. The town is one of the most beautiful in Greece full of little streams, bridges and parks. There are many small waterfalls throughout the town and one big one which is the main attraction. The town sits on a ledge overlooking a vast agricultural plain that extends all the way to Thessaloniki.
