My husband, my brother, and I spent 3 days (total) in Greece and 1 of those days we devoted entirely to Meteora. The spectacular views alone are enough to draw anyone in, but the historical and religious significance of the monasteries really made it special. In 1 day we were able to visit 5 of the 6 monasteries. We hiked to the first 3 (Nikolaos Anapafsas, Great Meteoron, Varlaam) from Kastraki, where we were staying, in the morning, had lunch in Kalampaka, then drove our rental car up to see St. Stephen's and Holy Trinity. It is a lot of work to hike though; we are all young, between 18-25, but were quite worn out by the 3rd monastery. I would not recommend this for elderly people or young children (under 3) because the monasteries can only be accessed by stairs, which were sometimes steep and slippery. Also, the railing is mostly wooden and open, so hold your child's hand! It cost 3 euro per person to get into each monastery. This is an excellent site for outdoor enthusiasts, photographers, history buffs, church history enthusiasts (there were many interesting manuscripts and relics), and those interested in architecture and art
